For if there had been nothing wrong with that first covenant, no place would have been sought for another.
Hebrews 8:7, NIV
We only emphasize that Christian life we are in is not based on another form of religious ritual but on a covenant. The question is what type of covenant are you in? Is it a covenant of religion or a covenant of love? It should be a covenant of love. Love is a person and that is God (see 1 John 4:16). The covenant we are in is a covenant based on who He is and not on who we are. It's based on what He has done and not on what we have done.
When you sign an agreement form, you understand what type of covenant or agreement you are signing in. And this is the reason why still many Christians missed the true essence of Christianity. It's because they don't understand the covenant they are in. In result, many are so called Christians are still living a life like they don't have Christ. There's no real transformation happened. They think Christianity is just like another form of religion to join but it's not. This is what the church needs today. It's about understanding the covenant or agreement you are in.
We are in the new covenant based on love not based on rules, The bible called it grace and no longer law came through a person and His name is Jesus, The Law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ (see John 1:17). Grace is the love of God came down reaching and saving us.
The purpose of the law which was the Ten Commandments was not to make human righteous but to reveal how weak and sinful there was through the law. The Law focused on you shall and you shall not do. Its focused was on human effort. That's why Israelites during those days had to offer a sacrificial lamb every day in order for them to be forgiven of their sins which only shows that they were weak and sinful in need of a Savior.
If you will read Hebrews 8:7-13. it says there that if the first covenant had been faultless, then no place would been sought for a second. Which shows that the first covenant which was the law was not faultless but failing. Not because of the law itself but because of those who were obeying the law. Israelites were failing during those times that's why they had to offer a sacrificial lamb every day.
That's why God prophesied through Prophet Jeremiah that He will make a new covenant with His people. That He will put His laws on their minds and write them in their hearts. That He will be merciful for their unrighteousness and their lawless deeds He will remember no more.
The question is, when and where that covenant took place. Friend, it took place on the cross 2000 years ago. At the cross, our sins are not just forgiven but removed. He became a sacrificial lamb once and for all to take away the sin of the world. The law that has been now put in the minds and wrote in the hearts is the presence of the Holy Spirit guiding and leading those who believe and receive Christ.
This is the Gospel. This is the Good News of Christ. Know that God is now dealing with you in a covenant not based on who you are but based on who He is. A covenant not based on what you have done but based on what He has done. Know that you can always have an intimate, loving relationship, enjoying obeying and fellowshipping with Him all day long knowing that this is not about you but about Him.
Thoughts Of The Day:
"I am in a covenant with God not based on who I am but based on who He is"
