For if there had been nothing wrong with that first covenant, no place would have been sought for another. Hebrews 8:7, NIV We only emphasize that Christian life we are in is not based on another form of religious ritual but on a covenant. The question is what type of covenant are you in? Is it a covenant of religion or a covenant of love? It should be a covenant of love. Love is a person and that is God (see 1 John 4:16). The covenant we are in is a covenant based on who He is and not on who we are. It's based on what He has done and not on what we have done. When you sign an agreement form, you understand what type of covenant or agreement you are signing in. And this is the reason why still many Christians missed the true essence of Christianity. It's because they don't understand the covenant they are in. In result, many are so called Christians are still living a life like they don't have Christ. There's no real transformation happened. Are you in the midst of the storm in your life today? It may seems like your situation is very angry with you and want to eat you alive. But know this, no storm has the right to overturn you if you are in Christ.
As we go back to the story, when Jesus was going to the other side of the lake together with His disciples, He said to them, “Let us cross over to the other side.” (Mark 4:35). So the disciples took Him with them in the boat. While they were in the middle of the sea, a great windstorm arose and waves were breaking into the boat, and the boat was already filling with water. But Jesus was sleeping with pillow at the back side of the boat. And one of His disciples said, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?" (Mark 4:38). Jesus awoke and calm the storm. He said to them, “Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?” (Mark 4:40).
In the midst of the stormy journey of your life today, the only thing you can do is to do what Christ did, and that is to "rest". God knows that your first response will be "worry". But as we look again the story, Jesus was giving them an example on what to do in the midst of the storm, but the disciples missed it. Jesus was inviting them to rest, but the disciples was inviting Him to worry. They'd forgot the word of Jesus, that they will go across to the other side.
Friends, rest in Christ. God's word said,
"Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." (Matthew 11:28)
"So there is a special rest still waiting for the people of God. For all who have entered into God’s rest have rested from their labors, just as God did after creating the world. So let us do our best to enter that rest. But if we disobey God, as the people of Israel did, we will fall." (Hebrews 4:9-11)
Resting in His presence and word is the needful thing we can do in our life's journey. It is a position that will bring us to the other side. It means, when resting in His presence and word becomes your priority, it will bring you to places that your human effort cannot bring but God's undeserved favor only!
Change your worry mode into peace mode today. No storm can overturn you, if Christ lives inside you.
