"Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect." Romans 12:2 NLT
We will see clearly here that God's way is different in changing a person into new. It is about changing the way we think not the way we behave. But sadly, religions of this world teaches opposite way. Religion says, "you need to behave right", "you need to be a good person", "you should do this", "you should not do that". Obviously it is not God's way but a worldly way. It can only makes a person religious on the outside but ravenous wolves on the inside. As a result we will never learn to know the perfect and pleasing will of God into our lives.
"Be careful how you think; your life is shaped by your thoughts." Proverbs 4:23 GNT
Its very clear here that our identity affects our habits. If you think yourself a sinner, you will act as a sinner. That's the problem in the world today. People are sinning not because they are rebellious or disobedient but because they have the lack of revelation of who they are in Christ.
Friends, this is the solution to our wrong behaviors is to change the way we think. We need to established our thoughts on the gospel of grace. We are called to grow in grace. Continue to know what God has made you in Christ and the gospel declares it. The gospel declares you are forgiven, righteous, holy in Christ. Know that in Him, you have made a new, complete person. When you fully understand your new identity in Him, all your old habits will be loose and will be replace by the new habits that is pleasing to God.
