For if there had been nothing wrong with that first covenant, no place would have been sought for another. Hebrews 8:7, NIV We only emphasize that Christian life we are in is not based on another form of religious ritual but on a covenant. The question is what type of covenant are you in? Is it a covenant of religion or a covenant of love? It should be a covenant of love. Love is a person and that is God (see 1 John 4:16). The covenant we are in is a covenant based on who He is and not on who we are. It's based on what He has done and not on what we have done. When you sign an agreement form, you understand what type of covenant or agreement you are signing in. And this is the reason why still many Christians missed the true essence of Christianity. It's because they don't understand the covenant they are in. In result, many are so called Christians are still living a life like they don't have Christ. There's no real transformation happened. "But his delight and desire are in the law of the Lord, and on His law (the precepts, the instructions, the teachings of God) he habitually meditates (ponders and studies) by day and by night."
Psalms 1:2 AMPC
What we always hear and meditate is vital in forming our beliefs. If you will look again the story of David and Goliath in 1 Samuel 17, we will notice that in verses 1 to 11, David was not there when Goliath together with Philistines soldiers came out to challenge the Israelites. In verse 11, after stating the description of Goliath, the Israelites were completely afraid. What was the thing that made them afraid? It was the description of Goliath. It was the description of their enemies. They became overwhelmed about the giant they were facing!
But not David, he was different at all. He was out in the scenario during that time. He was shepherding his father's sheep at Bethelehem during that time. Until he was being commanded by his father to brought foods to his brothers in the battle field. He heard Golliath's challenge and responded with different spirit. He responded in courage and faith. To cut the long story, he slay Goliath's head with his own sword and all the Philistines was being defeated.
David was not being mention when the description of Goliath was being stated in verse 1 to 11. It means, he didn't heard the description of Goliath. Obviously, David was occupied by the Lord's greatness when he came into the scenario in verse 12. He was not occupied by the greatness of Goliath. His thoughts was occupied by the Lord when he was taking care his father's sheep in the wilderness. That's why he responded diffently when came into the scenario (see 1 Samuel 17:34-37).
The lesson is clear. If you want to be a giant slayer. It begins in your belief system. Guard what you are hearing and meditating. If you will keep meditating the negative things happening around you, you will become like it. Your own fear will slay you.
That's why we need to change the channel of what we are hearing. Incline our ears to the Good News of what Christ has done. Meditate on it day and night. The bible says, faith comes by hearing and hearing the Good News of Christ (see Romans 10:17 NLT). When your mind is absorb by Christ, no giants has the right to stand in front of you. Surely, you will slay it off, if you know that you are victorious in Christ.
