This is also what happened to us. Our old struggling self, who always trying to be a right person has been replaced by a brand new person. No matter what kind of right doings we still do for ourselves, at the end, its still an old self.
But here's the good news. We are now a brand new person in Christ. How and when does it happen? It happened at the cross 2,000 years ago. It happened when our old self has been crucified with Christ (Romans 6:6) . So obviously, our old self today has died.

You are no longer a repaired person but a brand new person in Christ. You are 100% new creation apart from your works. Surely, the old has gone and the new has come (2 Corinthians 5:17). God is not seeing you in your mistakes. He sees you in Christ. He sees you as forgiven, holy, righteous, His beloved child. May you see yourself the way how God sees you. You are highly favored, greatly blessed, deeply loved in your position in Christ.
